We Are Building
A permanent home for rescued animals in Southern California. It does not exist yet. This page is what we intend, what it takes, and where the plan stands today.

They Get to Stay
There are animals that come out of a bad situation and go straight into a good one. This is not about them. It is about the others: the old ones, the ones with a medical history, the ones who do not photograph well, the ones who have been returned twice.
The intention is a place where those animals live out their lives properly — not warehoused, not waiting, not on a clock. If a home turns up, good. If it does not, they are already home.

Sanctuary Is Not
Another Word for Shelter
Most people use the two interchangeably. The difference is the entire point of what we are trying to build.
A shelter
Takes an animal in, holds it, and works to move it on. Space is finite and intake never stops, so time in the building is a resource being spent.
A sanctuary
Takes an animal in and that is the end of the emergency. Adoption is a possibility rather than a countdown. The animal is not occupying a space that something else urgently needs.
Shelters do essential work and we are not competing with them. But a sanctuary can say yes to the animal a shelter cannot responsibly take, and that animal is the reason for this.

What It Takes
Stated plainly, because anyone deciding whether to get involved deserves to know what they are getting involved in.
Land
Enough acreage in or near Southern California, zoned for animal keeping, with water and shade. This is the largest single obstacle and the one that sets the timeline.
Permits
County and municipal approval for the number and kinds of animals. It is slow and it is not optional.
Veterinary care
A working relationship with a practice, and a realistic budget for the animals that arrive needing work done.
Fencing and shelter
Secure runs, weather cover, quarantine space for new arrivals, and somewhere for people to sit.
Hands
Feeding, cleaning, walking, medicating, transport. Every day, not just on the good days.
Time
This is being built by people with other jobs. It will take as long as it takes, and we would rather be slow than make a promise to an animal we cannot keep.

Stands Today
Current status
Planning. There is no site, no facility and no animals in our care. Nothing on this website should be read as an operating sanctuary, because there is not one yet.
What exists is the intention, the plan on this page, and a list of people who want to help when it starts. If you would like to be on that list, that is the most useful thing you can do right now.
